"It's Really So 'Zombie Land Saga'!" Interview with Kaede Hondo on the Theatrical Film "Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise"

The theatrical film "Zombie Land Saga: Yumeginga Paradise" has been screening nationwide since Friday, October 24th. This popular series depicts seven girls who were revived as zombies by the mysterious idol producer Kōtarō Tatsumi and are working hard as Franchouchou, a local idol group from Saga Prefecture. Since the first season of "Zombie Land Saga" aired in October 2018, it has attracted the attention of anime fans with its innovative setting and eccentric story development.

The theatrical film depicts the continuation from the meaningful last scene of the second season "Zombie Land Saga Revenge," which aired from April 2021, and the highlight is that Tae Yamada, who was the only one who hadn't regained her self-awareness in the TV anime series, awakens. In this article, we interviewed Kaede Hondo, who plays Sakura Minamoto, and asked her about the theatrical film.

——The spectacular development that is also very characteristic of "Zombie Land Saga" was impressive. What was your first impression of this work, Ms. Hondo?

Hondo: My first impression was "It's really so 'Zombie Land Saga'!" This theatrical film follows the last scene of "Zombie Land Saga Revenge" where something like a spaceship appeared and somewhere that resembled Saga was destroyed, and just like the fans, we performers had thought a lot about which part would be picked up and expanded into a theatrical film, but I was a bit surprised like "So that's the part they're picking up!" (laughs).

The development where spaceships and extraterrestrial life forms appear also gave me a mysterious sense of acceptance like "Well, it's 'Zombie Land Saga,' so they'll do anything!" and I was happy to be able to feel that way.
