The TV anime adaptation of the highly popular fantasy work Witch Hat Atelier originally created by Kamome Shirahama, is confirmed to begin airing in April 2026. Coinciding with this announcement, an overwhelmingly beautiful teaser PV and character visuals for the main characters, Coco and Qifrey, have been released. Additionally, comments from the cast and staff have also arrived.
The original work is an orthodox magical fantasy currently serialized to great acclaim in Kodansha's Morning Two, penned by Kamome Shirahama. The series began in 2016, and 14 volumes of the manga have been released domestically so far. This hugely popular work has garnered attention worldwide, surpassing 7 million copies in cumulative circulation globally, including in North America. It has won several manga awards in countries such as France, Spain, and South Korea, and notably received the "Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia" at the U.S. Eisner Awards in 2020.
The anime production will be handled by BUG FILMS, the studio responsible for numerous popular titles, including Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead and Summer Time Rendering.
April 2026 Broadcast Confirmed! Beautiful PV and Main Cast Revealed
It has been confirmed that the Witch Hat Atelier anime will begin broadcasting in April 2026, and the teaser PV has been unveiled.
The PV magnificently captures the painterly beauty of the original manga's scenery through the animation produced by BUG FILMS. Alongside this grand visual splendor, the world view and initial storyline of the narrative are revealed.
The story is set in a world where "magic" is deeply rooted in people's lives. It follows Coco, a girl from a small village who longs for magic, as she encounters Qifrey, a young mage visiting her village one day. Upon learning an "absolute secret" hidden within magic, Coco steps into the world of mages. The PV depicts Coco innocently expressing her yearning for magic and her gentle everyday life as a child, but also shows her shedding tears after being confronted with a cruel truth, hinting at the darker side of the series.
The video also served as the first public announcement of the main cast: Natsuki Hanae, a rising new voice actress, will play the protagonist Coco, and Natsuki Hanae, who boasts global popularity for roles such as Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, will play Qifrey.
