The live-action film "WIND BREAKER" will be released in theaters on Friday, December 5th. This work is based on the manga "WIND BREAKER," which has surpassed 10 million copies in worldwide cumulative circulation. The story depicts the growth of Haruka Sakura, a delinquent high school student who transfers to Furin High School, becomes a member of Bofurin, a group that protects the town, and confronts the rival organization Shishitoren.
In this article, we conducted an interview with actor Koshi Mizukami, who plays the protagonist Sakura. We asked him about the conflicts and awareness he had in playing the protagonist in this popular manga adaptation.
——Please tell us your first impression after reading the original manga. The setting of Bofurin as delinquents who protect the town is innovative, but how did you perceive it?
Mizukami: By depicting the circumstances and reasons of the boys in Bofurin, I got the impression that this is a delinquent manga that aligns with the current Reiwa era. Through the message that true strength means not fighting and not using violence, I took the liberty of carrying on in the film what seems to be the prayers and wishes of the original author, Satoru Nii-sensei.
As part of human nature, I believe that conflicts will never disappear in the future history, but amid such circumstances, humans also bear the responsibility and destiny of seeking peace, and if we give up on (the true) strength depicted in this work, we might even cut off the history that humanity has woven.
To put it in larger terms, it connects to such things, but I think humans must continue to choose not to try to control people through violence and fear, and to choose different options.
