"The Apothecary Diaries" is an anime adaptation based on the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. It is a massive hit that has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines. The mystery-solving drama featuring Maomao, who ends up working as a "food taster" in the rear palace, and the comical interactions between Maomao and Jinshi (CV: Takeo Ōtsuka) became hugely popular and generated significant buzz. The TV anime has aired through its second season, and the third season has been announced for broadcast in split two-cours starting in October 2026 and April 2027. Additionally, the series' first theatrical film is scheduled for release in December 2026.
