On December 24th, the official X account for the anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" released a newly-drawn character visual alongside a Christmas message, sparking major discussion among fans.
The released image depicts the protagonist Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) dressed in a Santa Claus costume as the 2025 Christmas visual. She is shown wearing a classic red and white Santa outfit paired with a black belt and boots, with a large white sack placed beside her as a distinctive feature. While it appears to be an adorable Santa appearance at first glance, the upper right space of the image includes an English message reading "It's so heavy... Carry it, Stark." This reveals a characteristic aspect of her personality, as she attempts to have her companion Stark (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi) carry the luggage rather than carrying it herself.
"Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is a manga work with original story by Kanehito Yamada and artwork by Tsukasa Abe. It is currently serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday" and has won the 14th Manga Taisho Award and the 25th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize New Creator Award. This fantasy depicts the journey of Frieren, an elf mage who has lived for over a thousand years, as she travels to fulfill promises made to her former companions in a world set "after" the Demon King was defeated by a hero's party.
In response to this post, fans have shared unique speculations about the contents of the sack, such as "I'm curious about what's inside the bag," "It's probably a potion that dissolves clothes," and "It might be a Mimic," as well as comments touching on the character's personality, including "Frieren-sama with no intention of delivering gifts" and "Our Santa is chronically late."
