The Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba anime series is based on the manga by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, it follows the journey of Tanjiro Kamado, a young boy who becomes a demon slayer after his family is slaughtered by demons.
Since its TV debut in April 2019 with the Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc, the series became an instant global phenomenon. The sequel film, Mugen Train, surpassed 50 billion yen at the worldwide box office. With over 220 million copies of the manga in circulation, the series has cemented its place as one of the biggest hits in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the Entertainment District Arc, Swordsmith Village Arc, and Hashira Training Arc, it has been announced that the final episodes will be adapted into a theatrical trilogy titled Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle. The first film, Chapter 1: Akaza's Return", was released on July 18, 2025. As of November, its global box office revenue has already surpassed 106.3 billion yen. Additionally, the Aniplex YouTube channel has been releasing a series of character-focused commercials featuring footage from the film for eight consecutive weeks, starting November 1, 2025.
