——How do you perceive the worldview of the original work, Shiraishi-san?
Shiraishi: As you read through the story, it becomes a work with a gentle worldview yet with a touch of darkness somewhere. But that darkness isn't the kind that makes you feel painful to watch; rather, it's a darkness that sympathizes with the pain we hold in our hearts. I felt that this is also one of the charms of the work "Champignon Witch."
——Luna's constitution, which makes it difficult for her to interact with people, is also a key point, isn't it?
Shiraishi: Luna-chan is a very kind witch, but because poisonous mushrooms grow where she walks in town, people hurl terrible words at her. Even in such circumstances, there are people who are saved by the medicine she makes, and she feels joy in going to town by receiving kind words that quietly come back to her—not directly addressed to her, but words like "This medicine is good."
Even in situations that would generally be considered unfortunate, she has the inner strength to remain strong, but Minos and the others are there to support her weak parts. As a result of carefully facing each and every thing while swallowing various emotions within herself, her way of choosing words toward people is also a bit unique...
——I can imagine it was quite challenging to portray Luna with her delicate emotional nuances.
Shiraishi: I wanted to express very delicately things like how she directs her emotions toward the members present. During the recording of Episode 1, there was an instruction to somehow incorporate Luna's sense of hesitation when speaking into the specified time frame, but I felt it was difficult...
——So you were required to express that subtlety while fitting it within the time constraints.
Shiraishi: I understood very well what they were saying—the words Luna speaks are not words that come out immediately, but rather words that come out as a result of her processing many emotions within herself, thinking "maybe it's like this, or maybe it's like that."
Since they are words filled with kindness and various feelings, the idea is to be able to convey the process leading to those words in the tempo of the conversation as well, but that was really difficult... I was conscious of being careful about Luna-chan's unique way of producing words and performing more delicately.
