The fantasy manga "Champignon Witch" (written by Tachibana Higuchi), currently serialized in Hakusensha's "Manga Park," is being adapted into a TV anime. Luna, a dark witch whose constitution causes poisonous mushrooms to grow in her footsteps and mixes poison into her breath and skin, lives in a poisonous mushroom house deep in the dark forest together with magical creatures Minos, Merino, and Sisi.
On the way to town to sell the medicine Luna has made, despite being subjected to abusive language from townspeople who fear her, the story begins to unfold when she becomes attracted to a boy named Henri whom she happens to see.
In this article, we conducted an interview with voice actress Haruka Shiraishi, who plays Luna. While asking about recording episodes and the characters that appear, we arrived at a certain coincidence.
——Please tell us about the recording sessions. Luna is a very delicate character, isn't she?
Shiraishi: Since we carefully crafted each character with delicacy, the recording of Episode 1 took a long time, but I felt reassured being able to approach it knowing this was a production team that would take such care in creating it.
Luna herself doesn't have that many lines, but while listening to the exchanges with everyone else, I really felt that emotions were being born (as Luna) even in moments when I wasn't speaking. It was very enjoyable.
——Minos has a really great character, doesn't he? (lol)
Shiraishi: He's an incredibly great character! For Luna, who doesn't speak much, he's a very appreciated presence who speaks on her behalf and explains situations. He's like a young child, yet he's perceptive and gets to the heart of matters quite well. He says important things about Luna's romantic feelings too, and I think he's a wonderful and reliable family member for Luna.
——Emiri Katō's performance (as Minos) was also wonderful. Merino and Sisi are also warm and fuzzy, healing types, so to speak.
Shiraishi: When I was reading the original manga, I couldn't imagine what kind of voice Sisi would have, but it was truly wonderful and adorable! I wondered where the voice was coming from (lol). Misato Fukuen's ad-libs at key points (playing Sisi) are truly excellent. I felt that everyone's voices would naturally flow through my ears when I read the original manga from now on.
