The third season of the anime "Jujutsu Kaisen," titled "The Culling Game Part 1," began airing late at night on January 8th. Naoya Zenin (CV: Koji Yusa), renowned as a "scumbag character," immediately upon his appearance unleashed a barrage of scumbag remarks and misogynistic behavior, causing shock among viewers with comments like "Is this really okay to air on TV...??" and "Seriously what utter trash (as a compliment)."
Naoya is the son of the 26th head of the Zenin family, Naobito Zenin, and has a high opinion of himself while frequently making disparaging remarks about others. However, his refreshingly thorough scumbag nature has, in a full-circle kind of way (?), garnered unexpected popularity.
The premiere of "The Culling Game Part 1" was a one-hour special that aired episodes 48 and 49 back-to-back. Immediately upon appearing, Naoya condescendingly evaluated his cousin Maki Zenin (CV: Mikako Komatsu), saying, "She can't support a man. Women who can't walk three steps behind should be stabbed in the back and die."
He also said whatever he pleased, including remarks like "All my brothers are useless" and "(Jinichi Zenin's) face is no good." To top it all off, he had women of the Zenin family tie his waraji sandal straps as if it were a matter of course. Incidentally, this scene of having his waraji put on is an anime-original element not present in the source material.
In response to Naoya's successive behaviors that would not be tolerated in the Reiwa era, comments have been flooding in online such as "Seriously what utter trash (as a compliment)," "Is this really okay to air on TV...??," and "His remarks are really terrible lol."
