"What a Pain This Guy Is" - Fern's Inner Monologue Was Too Harsh in "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" Season 2 Premiere

The anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" Season 2 began airing on January 16th. Fern (CV: Kana Ichinose) unusually tried to be gentle with Stark (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi), saying "Come here. I'll pat you lots," but her "overly harsh inner voice" that followed drew laughter from viewers.

In Episode 29, "Let's Go Then," which was the Season 2 premiere, Stark declined Wirbel's (CV: Noriaki Taniyama) invitation and decided to continue traveling with Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) and the others. When Fern asked him, "Are you sure about this?", Stark looked back on his encounters with them, saying, "Why do you think I'm in this party?"

When he once tried to abandon the fight against the Red Mirror Dragon, Stark was encouraged by Fern's words. He recalled, "That night, Fern gave me the push I needed, so I wanted to travel together and joined the party."

When Stark continued with "So be nicer to me...", Fern spread both her arms and said, "Then come here. I'll pat you lots." However, when Stark said, "What are you plotting!? Scary!", Fern was inwardly thinking, "What a pain this guy is..."

Fern's cool retort prompted a flood of comments online such as "So cute lol," "I love how Fern gets snarky with Stark, it's hilarious," and "Ah, it was such a good atmosphere and then this lol."
