The "Dragon Ball Genkidama Festival," an event commemorating the 40th anniversary of 'DRAGON BALL,' was held on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba. Approximately 10,000 fans selected through advance lottery attended the venue, where the climax of the 40th anniversary and future new developments were shared through seven stage events and original artwork exhibitions.
At the opening event "New Development Super Announcement! Genkida Stage Part 1," Masako Nozawa, the voice of Son Goku, and Executive Producer Akio Iyoku took the stage, and a special 40th anniversary video was unveiled for the first time worldwide. In this video, where Akira Toriyama's illustrations come to life through cutting-edge technology, world-renowned film composer Hans Zimmer, who has won numerous awards including Academy Awards, provided the music. A grand and powerful score that evokes the story of Son Goku's growth and adventures resonated throughout the venue.
Furthermore, when the production decision for the anime 'Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol' was announced at the end of the video, loud applause erupted from the audience. Nozawa, who said she learned of the announcement for the first time on stage, showed a surprised expression, saying "I heard it for the first time, so I was shocked!" Iyoku expressed his enthusiasm for the new work, saying "We are creating the highest quality video possible."
At the "New Development Super Announcement! Genkida Stage Part 2" held in the afternoon, Koichi Yamadera, the voice of Beerus the God of Destruction, joined Nozawa and Iyoku on stage, and the broadcast decision for the anime 'Dragon Ball Super: Beerus' was announced. Yamadera openly expressed his joy, saying "I was looking forward to seeing what kind of reaction everyone would have! And I'm very happy that Beerus is in the title."
Regarding this work, Iyoku explained that it is an "enhanced version" that faithfully reconstructs the story based on Akira Toriyama's original concept, with numerous new cuts added and improved animation quality. He expressed his enthusiasm for the new series development, describing the flow from 'Dragon Ball Super: Beerus' to 'Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol' as <Super, Launch>.
