"Chiikawa" is a popular manga series by Nagano, which began serialization on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020. The series has won the Grand Prix at the "Japan Character Award" twice, in 2022 and 2024. Its massive appeal across all ages stems from the stark contrast between its adorable character designs and its occasionally harsh, realistic world. The official account currently boasts over 4.5 million followers.

The new anime series has been airing since July 2025 as part of Fuji TV’s "Mezamashi TV." Excitement continues to build as the franchise's first-ever feature film, "Chiikawa the Movie: Secret of the Mermaid Island," is set to hit theaters in Summer 2026.
