"Chiikawa" is a popular manga posted on X (formerly Twitter) that illustrator Nagano began serializing in 2020. It won the grand prix at the "Japan Character Award 2022" and the "Japan Character Award 2024" announced in July 2024. The gap between the small and cute characters and the harsh worldview has gained wide popularity from adults to children, with followers surpassing 4.57 million to date.
The new series of the anime "Chiikawa" has been airing since July 15, 2025, within "Mezamashi TV" on the Fuji Television network. Additionally, as the first theatrical film of "Chiikawa," "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island" is scheduled for release in the summer of 2026.
