![[Photos/Images] Why Does Atsumi Tanezaki (Frieren) Go All Out for Comical Scenes? The Three Main Cast Members of the TV Anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Discuss Their Acting Direction 1st](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/8/6/724w/img_861c6129aa318a8e8d3ce3e4882c81e8450110.jpg)
In the ongoing second season of the TV anime Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, the journey of Frieren’s party has resumed after the First Class Mage Exam Arc, departing from the magical city of Äußerst. As they travel through the Northern Lands and meet various people, the story even featured Fern and Stark’s date in the fortified city of Heis.
With Stark seeking Frieren's advice on the matter, the spotlight has been on the relationship between the three, allowing for plenty of humorous moments. In this article, based on an interview with Atsumi Tanezaki (Frieren), Kana Ichinose (Fern), and Chiaki Kobayashi (Stark), we bring you behind-the-scenes stories from the recording of the scene where Frieren wails for three days and three nights—a topic that went viral on social media—as well as the core principles each actor holds dear when playing their characters.
—In Episode 31, "A Favorite Place," there’s a scene where Stark consults Frieren, and she flashes back to a time when she wailed for three days and nights, absolutely terrifying Himmel. That crying performance was incredibly memorable. In the original manga, it was just a single panel, but the anime expanded it significantly.
Tanezaki: I felt like that one panel of "Waaaaah!" really got blown up (lol).
Everyone: (haha)
—The contrast between her acting like a smug big sister to Stark before and after that scene and the actual wailing was great.
Tanezaki: I thought, "If it’s enough to make Himmel tremble in fear, I have to go this far," but she’s crying in so many different ways in different spots around the room, right? I assumed we’d record each crying style one by one, but it turned out we were recording it all in one continuous take (lol).
Kobayashi: Talk about an emotional rollercoaster (lol).
Ichinose: So busy (lol).
Tanezaki: At first, I thought, "Don't think I can just do anything!" but it’s funny what you can pull off when you try (lol).
