Kyoto Animation's latest TV anime series, "Sparks of Tomorrow," is scheduled to begin broadcasting on ABC TV, TOKYO MX, TV Aichi, and BS11 starting July 5. It has also been confirmed for a worldwide exclusive streaming release on Netflix. Additionally, a new key visual and promotional video (PV) have been unveiled.
The series is based on the light novel "20th Century Electric Catalogue" by Hiro Yuki. Set in an alternate early 20th-century Kyoto where steam technology alone has flourished, the story follows a boy who has lost his brother—with whom he once dreamed of an "Era of Electricity"—and a devout girl carrying both a longing for her late mother and a sense of regret. Their meeting sparks the beginning of an adventurous tale.
The second PV, a 2-minute and 20-second video, focuses on the secrets hidden within the "20th Century Electric Catalogue," the core of the story. It depicts the characters confronting their past regrets, creating a sense of momentum that makes the premiere highly anticipated. Furthermore, the character voices have been revealed, with Yo Taichi cast as Suzu Harashima, Natsumi Kawaida as Kate Okura, Kazuki Ura as Yajiro Yagura, and Daisuke Hirakawa as Izo Masubuchi.
The opening theme song, "Eureka Evrika," features lyrics by multi-singer Luna Goami and music by the series' composer Hitomi Koto. It was also announced that Ginger Root, a project by Cameron Lew from Southern California, will perform the ending theme song. Comments from the cast and artists are now available on the official website.
The second key visual features Kihachi, Inako, Yousuke, Seiroku, Kengo, and Noriko. In contrast to the first visual, it presents a dreamlike space with a rich color palette, capturing the characters' internal emotions through their impressive expressions. With Kihachi and Inako looking determined as they hold the "20th Century Electric Catalogue" against their chests, expectations are high for the adventure they will undertake with the colorful cast of characters. A giveaway campaign for B2-sized promotional posters featuring this visual has also been announced, with details available on the official X (formerly Twitter) account.
Ahead of the broadcast and streaming, world premieres will be held in four countries. Screenings will take place sequentially from late May to early July in the UK, Thailand, Japan, and North America. The series has also been officially selected for the "Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026" in the TV Films category of the Official Competition, drawing attention to its worldwide expansion.
The Japan Premiere, featuring a stage greeting by the cast and staff, will be held on Sunday, June 14, at Shinjuku Piccadilly. Yuma Uchida, Sora Amamiya, and Director Minoru Ota are scheduled to appear. Two sessions will be held (starting at 11:00 AM and 1:25 PM), with the stage greeting taking place after the screenings. Furthermore, live viewing events will be held at eight theaters across Japan, with Shinjuku Piccadilly serving as the main venue.
