"Chiikawa" is a popular manga that illustrator Nagano has been posting on X (formerly Twitter) since 2020. It won the "Japan Character Award 2022" and went on to win the Grand Prix for two consecutive years at the "Japan Character Award 2024" and "Japan Character Award 2025." The gap between the small, cute characters and the harsh worldview has gained wide popularity among both adults and children, with the number of followers surpassing 4.62 million to date.
The anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing on Fuji TV's "Mezamashi TV" every Tuesday and Thursday around 7:36 AM. Additionally, the first-ever feature film for the series, "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," is scheduled for release on July 24, 2026.
