"Those Mimic teeth are sharp—looks like it’d hurt to get bitten!" Two photo spots debut! Massive Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End exhibition at AnimeJapan sparks "too much fun" buzz

The official X account for the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime updated to reveal that Mimic photo spots have appeared at AnimeJapan 2026. The displays are set up at two locations—the TOHO animation booth and the Nippon TV × VAP booth—becoming a hot topic among fans.

In the released images, the familiar scene of being repeatedly caught in traps is realistically recreated. At one booth, the structure allows people to actually climb inside a wide-mouthed Mimic, positioned next to an illustration of Frieren (CV: Atsumi Tanezaki) with her upper body stuck inside one. The other booth features a Mimic with rows of sharp teeth alongside a treasure chest overflowing with gold coins and grimoires, with character panels of Stark (CV: Chiaki Kobayashi), Frieren, and Fern (CV: Kana Ichinose) decorating the background.

In response to this post, social media users shared various reactions: "When you think of Frieren, you have to think of Mimics!" "I’m definitely going to take pictures!" "Those Mimic teeth are sharp—looks like it’d hurt to get bitten..." and "It makes me want to peek inside... now I understand how Frieren feels."

The anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a fantasy work based on the manga by Kanehito Yamada (Original Story) and Tsukasa Abe (Art). It depicts the story of Frieren, an elven mage who defeated the Demon King alongside the Hero Himmel and his party, as she embarks on a new journey to understand humanity. Seen through the eyes of an elf with a lifespan vastly different from humans, the series has gained popularity as an after-story where memories of former companions coexist with the melancholy and warmth of walking with new disciples. Additionally, the third season, the Golden Land Arc, is scheduled to air in October 2027.
