Even Hero Himmel Was Scared! Fans React to Anime-Original “Tantrum Frieren”: “Isn't She Way Too Cute Hopping Around?” in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Scene cuts of Frieren (VA: Atsumi Tanezaki) crying and wailing for three days and nights have been released on the official X account for the original Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga, sparking a massive conversation among fans.

The released images are from a flashback scene in Episode 31, “Favorite Place,” where Frieren tells Stark (VA: Chiaki Kobayashi) about a temper tantrum she threw in the past. In the four scene cuts, Frieren is captured in what appears to be an inn room, sobbing uncontrollably on a bed while messing up the blankets and hopping up and down so fast she leaves afterimages. Furthermore, the comical depiction shows her throwing a violent fit, even diving off the top of a tall closet and crashing onto the floor. In the foreground, a young Hero Himmel (VA: Nobuhiko Okamoto) and the warrior Eisen (VA: Yoji Ueda) watch her outburst in utter bewilderment.

While this moment was only depicted in a single panel in the original manga, the anime version significantly expanded the scene. With a direction that illustrated the passing of three days and nights, Frieren went completely wild—rolling around the floor and clinging to the furniture. It was a masterpiece of an anime-original scene that exuded such an overwhelming presence that even the Hero Himmel (VA: Nobuhiko Okamoto) couldn't help but mutter, “I'm scared.”

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End is a fantasy series based on the manga by Kanehito Yamada (story) and Tsukasa Abe (art). Set in a world after the Hero’s party has already defeated the Demon King, it follows Frieren, an elf mage who has lived for over a thousand years. After the death of her former comrade Himmel, she embarks on a journey to “understand humans,” a premise that has garnered support from a vast number of fans.
