Production Detail: A Relentless Pursuit of Realism

The third "Passionate Point" focused on the production team's obsession with detail. The cast discussed the rigorous production process, which included location scouting at traditional yose (Rakugo theaters) and animating scenes—such as the removal of a haori (traditional jacket)—using reference footage of professional Rakugoka shot from every possible angle. They even had professionals create new yose-moji (traditional calligraphy) for the show.

Takahashi praised the result, saying, "It feels like they've perfectly captured the atmosphere of a live venue," while Shiono remarked, "It’s so realistic. I actually got chills when I saw the footage." Nagase added, "I heard the production team adjusts the character movements down to tenths of a second," highlighting their dedication to translating the performing art of Rakugo into animation.

The cast also revealed they had been training in Rakugo for about a year. Nagase noted, "The experience of being taught from scratch has been invaluable for the recording sessions." Takahashi reflected on the difficulty of the art, saying, "Even the basic steps were hard; it made me realize how incredible actual Rakugo performers are."

"Candid Questions" Between Cast Members: Akihisa Shiono on the Challenge of Voice Acting

The program also featured a "Candid Question Session" where the cast interviewed each other. Shiono asked the veterans, "When you’re handling multiple recording sessions in a single week, how do you switch between roles?"

Takahashi shared her unique routine: "I change how I look at the script depending on the character, and I even change what I drink or what shoes I wear to switch my mindset." Nagase revealed her own method: "I always go to the restroom after a session before heading to the next studio. It’s like I’m literally flushing everything away to reset myself."

When Takahashi turned the floor to Shiono, she expressed her admiration: "It’s amazing that you participate in the weekly recordings alongside the main cast while balancing your work as an actor and model. Is there anything you’ve wanted to 'steal' or learn from the others?"

Shiono replied instantly, "Of course!" He explained, "I really wanted to record together with everyone so I could learn by watching your acting firsthand." He also mentioned, "Even during Rakugo practice, I would stay behind as much as possible to listen to everyone else perform." He candidly admitted to admiring deep, resonant voices and concluded, "I’ve learned so much that I can apply to my work as an actor," showing his sincere dedication to the project.
