A new exhibition titled "Hajime Isayama Select Original Drawings" will begin on Friday, April 24, at the "Attack on Titan in HITA Museum" (located within the Mizube-no-Sato Oyama Roadside Station).
Attack on Titan is a dark fantasy manga (completed series) by Hajime Isayama (originally from Hita City, Oita Prefecture), which was serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from the October 2009 issue (the inaugural issue) to the May 2021 issue.
The manga has 34 volumes published, and its worldwide circulation has surpassed 140 million copies. In January 2023, Hajime Isayama received a special award (50th Anniversary Special Award)—presented only once every ten years—at the Angoulême International Comics Festival, a world-renowned manga festival held in France. Additionally, the Attack on Titan TV anime series began broadcasting in 2013 and concluded its final chapters in 2023.
For this exhibition, the original creator Hajime Isayama personally selected 26 pages of original hand-drawn artwork from the world-famous manga Attack on Titan and wrote the caption comments for them. The captions are provided in four languages—Japanese, English, Korean, and Traditional Chinese—ensuring that both domestic and international visitors can enjoy the experience.
In today’s era where manga production is increasingly digitized, this exhibition introduces precious original drawings that symbolize the "final period of analog drawing." Visitors can directly experience the process and intensity of the work's creation, from the powerful lines and emotional expressions unique to hand-drawing to the instructions written outside the frames, and even the traces of ink and corrections.
