Toei Video Co., Ltd. and TANGLE Co., Ltd. have announced the establishment of the "ReVIBES Project," a joint venture. As the first phase of the project, a collaboration between the legendary series COBRA and collage artist Kosuke Kawamura has been realized.
The project is an initiative to create art pieces that reinterpret "immortal masterpieces"—such as manga, anime, and games—from a fresh perspective through collaborations between these intellectual properties (IP) and active domestic and international artists.
As Japanese pop culture receives renewed global acclaim, this project aims to present its value within a new artistic context and further establish its presence both in Japan and abroad. It is not a mere reproduction or an exercise in nostalgia, but an attempt to redefine IP as contemporary art—a new form of expression born from the intersection of past and present creativity.
Through this project, the organizers intend to reach new audiences, including art fans, collectors, and younger generations unfamiliar with the original IPs, in addition to existing fans of the works. Furthermore, the project plans to expand globally as "New Wave Art from Japan" through partnerships with overseas galleries, exhibitions, entries into international auctions, and collaborations with foreign artists.
Phase 1: COBRA × Kosuke Kawamura
The first release of the project features a collaboration between the late Buichi Terasawa’s immortal masterpiece COBRA, which boasts high popularity worldwide, and collage artist Kosuke Kawamura, who is similarly active and highly acclaimed both domestically and internationally.
