A special commemorative illustration by manga artist Yūji Kaku, famously known as the creator of Hell’s Paradise, has been released on the official DANDADAN manga X account, sparking a massive reaction among fans.
The posted artwork celebrates the 5th anniversary of the series' serialization. While Momo Ayase (CV: Shion Wakayama) striking a cute pose in the center of the frame immediately catches the eye, the true highlight is the sheer density of the piece. At first glance, it appears to be a vibrant solo cut of the heroine, but characters are packed tightly all the way into the background. From Ken "Okarun" Takakura (CV: Natsuki Hanae) in his transformed state to the various yokai and aliens that have appeared throughout the series, the entire canvas is filled to the brim. Each character, rendered with Kaku’s signature intricate and powerful touch, radiates an overwhelming presence.
DANDADAN is an occultic battle and romantic comedy following Momo Ayase, a high school girl who believes in ghosts, and Ken Takakura, an occult geek who believes in UFOs, as they encounter supernatural entities and extraterrestrials that defy their understanding. Serialized on Shueisha’s "Shonen Jump+," the series has garnered high acclaim both in Japan and overseas for its unpredictable plot and breathtaking artwork. The television anime adaptation is equally beloved for its dynamic character drama and high-octane action scenes.
In response to this meticulously detailed piece, social media has been flooded with comments praising the quality and ingenious composition, such as "If you look closely, everyone's in the background," "So cool!", and "Kaku-sensei's art is just too good."
