"Re:ZERO"’s "Character Name Episodes" Never Fail! Director Praises Emotional Dialogue Between Subaru (CV: Yūsuke Kobayashi) and Julius (CV: Takuya Eguchi): "What a Passionate Performance..."

Episode 72 of the anime Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- 4th Season has been airing since May 13. Director Masahiro Shinohara revealed a behind-the-scenes story regarding an emotional conversation between the knight Julius Juukulius (CV: Takuya Eguchi) and the protagonist Subaru Natsuki (CV: Yūsuke Kobayashi).

Julius is a knight serving Anastasia Hoshin (CV: Kana Ueda), praised as the "Greatest of Knights" for his exceptional skill in swordsmanship and magic. While he and Subaru initially clashed, a deep bond formed between them as they fought side-by-side. Due to his "name" being stolen during a battle with a Sin Archbishop of the Witch Cult, his existence has currently been erased from the memories of everyone except Subaru.

In Episode 72, "Julius Juukulius," Julius suffered a defeat at the hands of the "Stick-Swinger" (Reid Astrea) due to an overwhelming gap in strength. As Julius desperately tried to walk on his own despite his injuries, Subaru offered a shoulder to lean on, saying, "Both you and I are total idiots!"

Subaru encouraged Julius, saying, "I’ll lend you a shoulder, and I don’t consider it a favor," adding, "That’s why I won’t leave you alone on these stairs." When Julius replied with a soft "I’m sorry," Subaru gave a blunt, characteristic response: "Shut up."

The Re:ZERO series features several episodes where a character's name serves as the subtitle, and Episode 72 was another installment that turned the spotlight on Julius.
