——What inspired you to cosplay as Frieren this time?

Babu-chan Gunsō (hereafter, Babu-chan): The TV anime was airing right around the time of the event, so I thought, "It would be nice if there were fun booths unique to AnimeJapan!♪" and decided to join the event as Frieren. As a result, I was safely (?) eaten by a Mimic and rescued by Fern, who came with me, so I'm completely satisfied!

*Editor's Note: At the "AnimeJapan 2026" TOHO animation booth, a Mimic photo spot was on display, allowing attendees to take photos mimicking Frieren being eaten by a Mimic.

——What did you focus on for this particular cosplay?

Babu-chan: I love the original manga's beautiful color touch, so I worked hard to bring out Frieren's signature fleeting, ethereal quality. I’d be happy if I managed to express her ageless face, making people wonder, "Is she really a mature woman? Or is she young? Which one is it?" I’m still not used to having my photo taken at all and am going through a lot of trial and error, but I looked closely at many of the original manga panels and illustrations, thinking about how Frieren would move before taking on the challenge!
