—What aspects of Yoshino do you want to express through your cosplay, and what are your specific areas of focus?

U-kari: I’ve been cosplaying this character for over ten years, but I feel that perfectly replicating the 2D version of Yoshino-chan is utterly impossible for me. That's exactly why my goal is to capture "what she might be like if she existed in the real world." I approach the cosplay while deeply valuing Yoshino-chan's essence and overall aura.

I've remade this wig so many times that I've lost count of which generation it is, but my subtle point of dedication is adjusting the hair volume so that my head doesn't look too big.

—When and how did you first encounter "Marimite," and what do you find most appealing about it?

U-kari: Around 2013, just as the anime adaptation was approaching its 10th anniversary the following year, a friend recommended it to me. I started by watching the "Marimite" anime and then moved on to reading the original light novels.

It doesn't have any fantasy elements like the modern isekai genre, but the worldview of the girls' school life—which feels elegant and somewhat sacred, a world we rarely experience in everyday life—is incredibly beautiful and captivating. The protagonist seems ordinary at first glance, but she is actually very mature mentally, and I was deeply moved by how she overcomes various hardships and interpersonal relationships.

The beautiful sisterly bonds and the depictions of delicate, complex emotions that can only be experienced during girlhood are also charming, making it a favorite series of mine that I want to reread over and over again.

Moreover, "Maria Watches Over Us" brought me many friends. Our relationships went beyond just connecting through cosplay; I received precious bonds that allow us to keep in touch even now and talk about the series together. I am truly grateful that loving this work has granted me such a wonderful treasure as human connection.

—Do you have any announcements regarding your activities, or any cosplays you would like to try in the future?

U-kari: Although it will be at my own pace, I want to continue enjoying my cosplay activities. Since this year marks the milestone of the 35th anniversary of "Future GPX Cyber Formula," I am thinking of challenging it once again. And in 2028, "Maria Watches Over Us" will celebrate its 30th anniversary, so I would be happy if I could celebrate it in high spirits then too.

—Thank you very much!

We would like to express our gratitude to U-kari for showcasing her cosplay from the classic masterpiece "Marimite." We are deeply grateful that she continues to express the timeless charm of "Marimite" through her cosplay.
