What is the Anime "Jujutsu Kaisen" in Which Choso Appears?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/7/c/724w/img_7c11223678d6b28d6e1b0b9ea30a8e3364713.jpg)
The anime "Jujutsu Kaisen" is a story depicting the battle between "Jujutsu Sorcerers," humans who can use Jujutsu, and "Cursed Spirits," born from negative human emotions. Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits are opposing entities, and the battle intensifies after the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, assimilates with and resurrects the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna.
Since the Sorcerer side and the Cursed Spirit side are fundamentally in total opposition, Choso, a hybrid of human and Cursed Spirit, is portrayed as a rare existence who can be said to be right in the middle. Sorcerers view Cursed Spirits as things to be exorcised, while Cursed Spirits view humans as things to be cursed.
Jujutsu sorcerers such as Satoru Gojo and Megumi Fushiguro belong to Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School, commonly known as Jujutsu High, which serves as the setting. Each and every one of them possesses a unique and compelling charm, and fans can often be seen talking about their favorite characters on social media.
Who is Choso in the Anime "Jujutsu Kaisen"? Introducing His Profile and Voice Actor
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/9/3/724w/img_93cad11f9416b95405da1dd1363c890568924.jpg)
Choso is the incarnated form of the "Cursed Womb: Death Paintings," a Special Grade Cursed Object consisting of nine fetuses born between a human and a cursed spirit. Choso is the eldest brother of the nine, and appears along with the second oldest, Eso, and the third oldest, Kechizu.
In the anime, Choso makes his first appearance in Episode 24 during Eso's flashback scene. It shows the newly incarnated Choso, Eso, and Kechizu discussing siding with the Cursed Spirits. From this scene, it can be understood that because Choso is a hybrid of human and Cursed Spirit, he is a character in an ambiguous, half-hearted position. At this point, he sides with the Cursed Spirits, but that is purely for convenience.
Choso's Basic Information [Profile]

(Source: Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook)
Choso is classified not as a Cursed Spirit, but as an incarnated entity (a form taken when a cursed object incarnates). His grade is Special Grade, but this classification is because he is the incarnation of the Special Grade Cursed Object, Death Painting Womb.
He deeply cares for his younger brothers, and even in his appearance scenes in Season 1, his strong brotherly love was depicted. Among them, the line "Eso lives for Kechizu, Kechizu lives for me, and I live for Eso" is particularly memorable. Also, his dislike is listed as Noritoshi Kamo, which is believed to stem from the fact that Noritoshi Kamo used the mother of Choso and his brothers to create the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings.
In Episode 32 of the anime, it was revealed that Choso's technique is Blood Manipulation. Blood Manipulation is an inherited technique of the Kamo Clan, one of the Big Three Sorcerer Families, and allows the user to manipulate their own blood and objects stained with it. Among the appearing characters, Noritoshi Kamo, a third-year student at Kyoto Jujutsu High, uses Blood Manipulation.
Later on, he realizes the possibility that Itadori shares the same blood as him, and from then on, he joins his side as Itadori's "big brother."
Choso's Basic Information [Voice Actor]
In the anime "Jujutsu Kaisen," Choso is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa. He is active in a wide range of fields, not only appearing in numerous anime but also being highly active in movie dubbing and serving as the CEO of the voice acting agency Stay Luck.
Additionally, having been active as a child actor, his career spans about 40 years. He has a career length that stands shoulder to shoulder with veteran voice actors.
Some of his representative characters include Riddhe Marcenas in "Mobile Suit Gundam UC," Waver Velvet in "Fate/Zero," and Italy in "Hetalia: Axis Powers." In movie dubbing, he has voiced Frodo Baggins in "The Lord of the Rings" and John Connor in "Terminator 2," among others.
Is Choso Yuji Itadori's Big Brother? Who are the Parents? What about the Brothers?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/9/0/724w/img_9038f6ae0153d910d79ad63131f828d870495.jpg)
In Episode 46, Choso came to be absolutely certain that Itadori is his younger brother. As grounds for this, Choso cites that "no matter how far away they are, I can sense any abnormalities in my blood-related younger brothers," and that during his battle with Itadori, he "intensely sensed Itadori's 'death'" right in front of his eyes.
The scene where he sensed his brothers' abnormalities has already been depicted; when Eso and Kechizu were defeated by Itadori and others in Episode 24, Choso noticed it and stated, "My younger brothers have died." Choso explains that this ability to perceive them is due to the influence of his innate technique.
Furthermore, Choso completely believed that Itadori is his blood-related younger brother, and in Episode 46, he uttered iconic (?) lines that caused quite a stir even when the original manga was published, such as:
"Move!!! I'm the big brother!!!"
"I will fulfill my duties as the big brother with all my might!!"
"Does that give me a reason not to put my life on the line in front of my little brother?"
"Can you just try calling me 'big brother' once for now?"
However, Itadori seems to have absolutely no perception of them being brothers, and in response to Panda's question, "Just asking to be sure, but you guys are strangers, right?", he replied, "Far from strangers, he almost killed me once."
Although the truth remains unrevealed, after that, Choso perceives Itadori as his younger brother and begins to side with him.
Choso's Parent is Noritoshi Kamo... What is the Blood Relationship with Itadori?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/c/a/724w/img_ca97c9d78ff94f12803b0537b2fa696390473.jpg)
In Episode 46, Choso mentions in a monologue that he has three parents. The three parents refer to his mother, the cursed spirit that impregnated his mother, and the entity that mixed his blood between them, with this third individual being Noritoshi Kamo.
Noritoshi Kamo appears to be moving from body to body using a technique that swaps bodies, and he himself stated, "Noritoshi Kamo is just one of many names." And the person whose body Noritoshi Kamo currently occupies is Geto.
Since Noritoshi Kamo is a figure from the Meiji era, it is hard to imagine that Itadori inherited the blood of that same "Noritoshi Kamo" body. However, Choso thinks, "If Noritoshi Kamo has been surviving by hopping from body to body, then nothing is impossible."
In other words, he surmised that between the body transfers from "Noritoshi Kamo" to "Suguru Geto," he must have passed through the bodies of several other individuals, and one of them might be a blood relative of Itadori.
What are Choso's Movements in the Shibuya Incident in the Anime "Jujutsu Kaisen"?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/3/6/724w/img_36ceb130418afa700daeae5431e06edc75643.jpg)
A curtain is lowered centered around Shibuya Station, and Satoru Gojo arrives at the scene to handle it. On the Shintoshin Line platform on the B5F of Tokyo Metro Shibuya Station, a battle begins between Gojo and Choso, Jogo, and Hanami, and Choso also attacks with Blood Manipulation: "Slicing Exorcism."
Although they fight back with "Supernova" and "Convergence," Choso and the others are cornered in close-quarters combat. Just as Hanami is defeated, a train and Mahito arrive at the station, and the platform becomes chaotic with humans, transfigured humans, and cursed spirits. There, Gojo activates his Domain Expansion: "Unlimited Void," and Choso and the others, unable to process the infinite information, are rendered incapacitated.
After Suguru Geto (who is actually Noritoshi Kamo) seals Gojo in the Prison Realm, the cursed spirits awaken from "Unlimited Void." Choso declares that he will search for and kill Yuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki, the enemies who killed his younger brothers Eso and Kechizu.
Choso encounters Itadori, who has entered the Shibuya Station premises aiming for the sealed Gojo.
Choso corners Itadori. Just as he says, "Apologize to my brothers in the afterlife," and tries to deal the finishing blow, "memories that don't exist" overflow into Choso's brain. It is a happy scene of him eating around a table with his Death Painting Womb brothers. Among them is Itadori, calling him "big brother," which leaves Choso confused.
Choso stands up again to find out who Itadori really is. Recognizing that the fake Geto engaged in battle is actually "Noritoshi Kamo," he moves to defeat him, but ends up fighting Uraume, who steps in between. At this moment, the line "Move!!! I'm the big brother!!!" comes out.
Although the battle is interrupted by the appearance of Yuki Tsukumo, the fake Geto (Noritoshi Kamo) activates "Idle Transfiguration." He releases cursed spirits and flees the scene.
What Happens to Choso in the "Culling Game"?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/6/7/724w/img_674f69f87b1c4da2a6e6095f8dac9a02989184.jpg)
Itadori was suffering, consumed by guilt after turning into Ryomen Sukuna and killing many people during the "Shibuya Incident," but Choso stayed close by his side.
The Jujutsu Headquarters issues Itadori's death sentence once again, and after the two are defeated by Yuta Okkotsu, a Special Grade Sorcerer who became his executioner, they return to Jujutsu High once more. In the process of joining up with the Jujutsu High members and Choso proposing a way to reach the The Tombs of the Star Corridor, where Tengen resides, Maki Zen'in asks Itadori, "Who is this guy?" to which Itadori replies, "For now, let's just say he's my... big brother..." Perhaps out of excitement, Choso shouts his younger brother's name loudly.
Under Tengen, they sort out Kenjaku's goal and the rules of the "Culling Game," and Itadori and the others set off on their respective paths. Itadori goes with Fushiguro to meet Kinji Hakari, a third-year Jujutsu High student, while Choso, who will guard Tsukumo and Tengen, remains in the The Tombs of the Star Corridor. At their parting, when Itadori says, "Thanks, you really helped me out," Choso appears to have been crying.
What is the Special Grade Cursed Object "Cursed Womb: Death Paintings" in the Anime "Jujutsu Kaisen"?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/0/7/724w/img_074cad9324e3a5e0e009ccf1dfedaff343314.jpg)
What exactly are the "Cursed Womb: Death Paintings," of which nine exist including Choso? Very little is known about the details, only that "they are hybrids of humans and cursed spirits," "Nos. 1 through 3 are Special Grade Cursed Objects," and "there are nine of them in total."
As mentioned earlier, at this point, only three out of the nine have appeared in the anime: No. 1 (Choso), No. 2 (Eso), and No. 3 (Kechizu). By the way, the names of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings like Choso, Eso, and Kechizu are derived from "Kusozu," Buddhist paintings that depict the process of a corpse decaying.
Nine Fetuses Born Between a Cursed Spirit and a Human
The "Cursed Womb: Death Paintings" were born at the beginning of the Meiji era, delivered by a woman with a unique constitution who could become pregnant with a cursed spirit's child. Not many details are shared about this woman, other than that she was shunned by her relatives for bearing a cursed spirit's child, and that she fled into a mountain temple holding her child's corpse.
And the chief priest at the mountain temple where the woman fled was Noritoshi Kamo, who is spoken of as the worst sorcerer in history. Kamo took a strong interest in the woman's unique constitution, and she subsequently went through nine pregnancies and abortions. The nine fetuses aborted during this process are the nine Cursed Womb: Death Paintings.
No records remain as to how the nine pregnancies and abortions were carried out, and what happened to the woman afterward is also unknown. The reason Cursed Womb: Death Paintings Nos. 1 through 3 have survived to this day is that their existence could be guaranteed through a Binding Vow possible only for powerful Special Grade Cursed Objects: "ceasing life and causing no harm to others."
Who are Choso's Younger Brothers, Eso and Kechizu, in the Anime "Jujutsu Kaisen"?
Cursed Womb: Death Paintings No. 2 Eso and No. 3 Kechizu are characters who appear as enemies to Itadori and his companions, just like Choso. Their appearances are quite different from Choso's, and as you go from No. 2 to No. 3, they look closer to Cursed Spirits. Both are Special Grade and are users of blood-related techniques.
Who is Death Painting Womb No. 2 "Eso"?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/4/a/724w/img_4a3e8955d078afd399e3ad51d7e2830963404.jpg)
Eso is a memorable character with highly revealing, bondage-like attire and a hairstyle that leaves only his bangs. He is also characterized by the mismatched combination of his soft, gentleman-like way of speaking and his well-trained muscles.
■ Grade: Special Grade (The incarnated form of the Special Grade Cursed Object, Death Painting Womb No. 2)
Eso's innate technique is "Rot Technique," which decomposes targets by drenching them in toxic blood. Extension techniques shown in the story include "Decay," which rots the body from the parts drenched in blood, and Maximum: "Wing King," which shoots blood spread out like butterfly wings.
The speed at which the blood kills the target varies depending on the amount of blood showered on them. In Episode 24, it was declared to take about 15 minutes for Itadori, who took blood to the face, and about 10 minutes for Nobara Kugisaki, who took blood to the arm, and the decomposition process is accompanied by intense pain. The activation of the technique is also possible on blood showered by Kechizu.
Additionally, Eso has a face-like entity on his back that continuously drips blood, giving him a complex about his back. He seems to utterly detest having his back seen, and in the story, there was a scene where he unleashed his rage, shouting "I'll freak'n kill you!!" at Itadori and the others who saw his back. By the way, the reason he wears such revealing clothes is apparently to prevent his blood-dripping back from becoming stuffy.
Who is Death Painting Womb No. 3 "Kechizu"?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/7/7/724w/img_7705e9043e791aa1cb4b7f27db281b1d47191.jpg)
Death Painting Womb No. 3 Kechizu has an appearance much closer to a Cursed Spirit compared to Choso and Eso. His overall shape is round, characterized by a wide-open mouth. When moving, he walks on all fours using his arms and legs. Although his appearance is non-human, his intelligence is equal to that of Choso and Eso, and he can be seen speaking lines in the story like, "Forgive me, brother!! I didn't mean it!! I didn't mean it!!"
Like Eso, his technique also uses blood. Furthermore, similar to Eso, he can activate his technique on blood showered by Eso as well.
According to the "Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook," the face above his large mouth belongs to the human who served as his vessel. Because Kechizu's cursed energy is weaker compared to Choso and Eso, traces of the human vessel remain, making him look as if he has two faces.
What are Choso's Memories That Don't Exist?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/5/7/724w/img_571444f14d2a5693905e21330c4f0dbe56179.jpg)
In Episode 37, just as he was about to deal the finishing blow to Yuji Itadori, "memories that don't exist" suddenly flooded Choso's brain. It was a scene of Choso, Eso, Kechizu, and the other Cursed Womb: Death Paintings Nos. 4 through 9, along with Itadori, gathered around the same table, happily eating together. In that memory, Itadori calls Choso "big brother" and feeds him pasta wound around a fork while saying "Ahhh" (an anime-original scene).
It is also worth noting that this is not the first time Itadori has caused memories that don't exist to overflow in an opponent's brain (as seen with Aoi Todo in Episode 15).
What is Choso's Rank in Official Popularity Polls and the Number of Valentine's Chocolates Received?
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/d/5/724w/img_d5ad79da0e1e9d079f79e1c3da36552751124.jpg)
Official popularity polls have been held four times in the pages of "Weekly Shonen Jump," and the Valentine's chocolate ranking has been announced by year three times starting from 2019 in the manga volumes (Volumes 8, 14, and 18).
The results for Choso in the past four popularity polls are:
1st Poll: Outside the top 30
2nd Poll: 7th place, 4,757 votes
3rd Poll: 10th place, 1,748 votes
4th Poll: 6th place, 6,247 votes
Although he was outside the top 30 in the first poll, he made a massive leap from the second poll onward, ranking 7th, 10th, and 6th.
The number of Valentine's chocolates received is:
2019: Outside the top 4
2020: 7th place, 7 chocolates
2021: 11th place, 41 chocolates
He has maintained stable popularity, ranking around 10th place for two consecutive years, and the author's comment in 2021, "If Akutami were to give a chocolate, it might be to this guy," indicated that he is a character favored by the author as well.
Conclusion
![[Photos/Images] Is Choso from the Anime Jujutsu Kaisen Itadori's Big Brother? Brothers, Memories That Don't Exist, Voice Actor, and Profile Introduced](https://times-abema.ismcdn.jp/mwimgs/c/2/724w/img_c24b9577a65eb8178a10c6910ffd30e388218.jpg)
Choso is an existence in what could be called a middle position, being a hybrid of human and Cursed Spirit. It is intriguing to see how this setting will be utilized from Season 2 onward. Since "Jujutsu Kaisen" is a work that depicts the conflict between Sorcerers and Cursed Spirits, rewatching the story from the perspective of Choso's middle position might help make the goals of both the Sorcerers and the Cursed Spirits even clearer.
