"I'm About to Cry Right Now!" Fans Thrilled by the First Voices of Siren and Shimajirō, Plus the Reveal of the New Song "Kutsuzure"! "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island"

A 90-second trailer featuring the first voices of Shimajirō (CV: Tsuguo Mogami) and Siren (CV: Minori Suzuki) has been released along with a message on the official X account for "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," creating a huge buzz.

According to the details of the post, the mission is to defeat the Siren, and the video questions what the true "secret" hidden on the island really is. In addition, the opening theme song "Kutsuzure" features lyrics written by the original creator, Nagano, and is sung by Hachiware (CV: Makoto Tanaka).

In the released video, the group travels to a solitary island on a swan-shaped boat and enjoys a vacation while being welcomed by the islanders. Chiikawa (CV: Haruka Aoki), Hachiware, and Usagi (CV: Ari Ozawa) can be seen smiling with blue or pink flower crowns on their heads and wrapped in what looks like green straw capes around their waists. However, the atmosphere shifts drastically, showing shocking scenes such as the Siren—a creepy, gigantic black-and-white creature—putting an islander into its mouth, and Chiikawa tearing up. Furthermore, the second half of the video depicts a succession of memorable scenes, including a determined moment where everyone forms a huddle with weapons raised, and the muscular Shimajirō silently eating curry.

"Chiikawa," the source material for "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," is an anime adaptation of the hugely popular work by illustrator and manga artist Nagano. It depicts the fun yet slightly poignant stories of "Something Small and Cute," commonly known as Chiikawa and their friends. Although they sometimes cry over difficult things, Chiikawa is surrounded by many kind friends and unique characters. The movie is scheduled to open on Friday, July 24th.
