Mayumi Tanaka to Voice Luffy! New Anime The One Piece Unveils Teaser at Annecy Festival, Marking Its World-First Footage Release

The teaser trailer for the new anime The One Piece, scheduled for global streaming on Netflix starting February 2027, was unveiled at the "Next on Netflix Animation" panel event during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026.

This work is a brand-new anime series based on the manga ONE PIECE by Eiichirō Oda, which has been serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (Shueisha) since 1997 and surpassed 600 million copies in circulation worldwide as of March 2026. The story follows the main character, Monkey D. Luffy, who aims to become the Pirate King, as he sets sail on a grand adventure in search of the "One Piece" (the ultimate treasure) alongside the straw hat entrusted to him by Red-Haired Shanks. This new adaptation will start over from the very first episode of the "East Blue Arc." The animation production will be handled by WIT STUDIO.

The newly released teaser trailer showcases vivid visual expressions, including the endlessly expanding blue sea and sparkling waves, while offering the first look at the main characters, including Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. At the end of the video, Luffy is depicted with overwhelming power as he dynamically unleashes his Gum-Gum Pistol against the Lord of the Coast.

Along with this, it was announced that Mayumi Tanaka has been cast as Monkey D. Luffy for the Japanese version. Tanaka, whose appearance was realized in response to passionate requests from the production team, shared her heartfelt thoughts on the project, commenting: "I am delighted to participate as Luffy in this new series, The One Piece. The voice recording sessions were truly enjoyable, so I hope many people will watch it."

Furthermore, the director, Masashi Koizuka, mentioned that the animation team is constantly giving 120% to match the passionate and wonderful performances of the voice cast. Reflecting on the excitement from when the original manga first began serialization, he strongly expressed his enthusiasm for the project: "Above all, our focus is to dedicate everything to animating the interesting work that is ONE PIECE created by Oda-sensei. We are producing this with a deep commitment to giving everyone the chance to experience a fresh, new ONE PIECE right from the very beginning."

In conjunction with this announcement, new staff information, including the main animator, has also been additionally released.
