"Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising" Work Overview

Release Date: August 28, 2026

Synopsis
Madoka Kaname, who lives in the local city of Mitakihara, is a somewhat introverted, ordinary middle school girl. However, after learning of the existence of "Magical Girls" who fight witches, she becomes entangled in their battle. Grieving over the sight of Magical Girls getting hurt and falling in battle, she makes a wish to Kyubey: "I want to erase all witches before they are even born." Thus, Madoka transforms into a transcendent concept known as the "Law of Cycles," and through that power, the world is remade into one where witches do not exist. Homura Akemi harbors Madoka's final will in her heart and vows to continue fighting the "Wraiths" that have come to proliferate in place of witches.

Dreaming of the day she will be guided by the Law of Cycles, she continues to fight— Homura was spending her days living the ordinary life of a Magical Girl. Though they were days of fighting Nightmares, they were also fun-filled days spent with her companions. However, she begins to feel a sense of unease at flaws in her daily life, eventually arriving at a definitive fact. That is, the existence of "Madoka Kaname," who should not be in this world. This was a fabricated world, a false space created by Homura herself, who was turning into a witch, all to reclaim her daily life with Madoka. The Magical Girls fight together to crush the scheme of Kyubey, who knew that secret and tried to exploit it. However, doing so meant nothing less than acknowledging that Homura was turning into a witch and that Madoka was an entity detached from the world as the Law of Cycles. Therefore, at the final moment, in order to not lose Madoka, Homura becomes a "Devil" that brings down the god-like Madoka, and remakes the world herself.

Lately, a certain rumor was being whispered among the girls of Mitakihara. The "Lizard Phone" will grant your wish—in exchange for fighting the curses of this world.

Around that time, a series of anomalous incidents were occurring where a "girl without a Soul Gem" was hunting Wraiths. Homura calmly observed such sights, having everything her way as the Devil ruling over this world. ──Or so it should have been.

An entity that would bring an end to such a distorted daily life suddenly appears. The place where all witches began—Nazuka Sokotsune; a collective of multiple witches that once tormented Homura—Walpurgisnacht; and two Magical Girls seeking the Law of Cycles.

The girls say, "We will never forgive Homura Akemi." In a world that has lost the Law of Cycles, the destinies of the Magical Girls begin to turn once more.
