Daisuke Namikawa & Hiro Shimono's "Ultimate Sauce" Quest Goes Off the Rails — Talk of Commercializing the Everything-but-the-Kitchen-Sink "Namikawa Sauce"
In this episode, the two hosts — who had previously said in a planning meeting that they wanted to create the ultimate sauce — took on the "New Discovery! Let's Think Up the Ultimate Sauce!" segment, aiming to come up with a new sauce to pair with tuna sashimi.
Right from the start, the pair said, "Tuna's partner is already decided!" and "Soy sauce is the goal, isn't it?" Even so, they began trying various seasonings, including sesame oil, salt, barbecue powder, vinegared miso, and olive oil. Namikawa came up with an "everything sauce," adding ponzu, chili oil, sesame oil, butter, mayonnaise, garlic, Tabasco, and more one after another. "It's not coming together — they're fighting each other!" he said, but when paired with the tuna, he declared, "This is good!" — and Shimono was surprised too, saying, "It's surprisingly good!"
The pair continued trial and error, also drawing on comments from viewers. At one point, Namikawa said, "It's soy sauce! It's overwhelmingly good!" once again realizing just how delicious soy sauce is. Finally, when asked for their answer to "the ultimate sauce for tuna," the two said in unison, "Soy sauce!" After trying all kinds of sauces, they ultimately landed back on "soy sauce." Shimono, however, praised Namikawa's "everything sauce," saying, "But I don't actually dislike this Namikawa sauce." He added, "Let's actually make this sauce — remember how you made it," to which Namikawa responded, "Then let's have Yasumoto sell it for us!" and "Let's think about the proportions and refine it," sparking talk of turning it into an actual product.
