Chiikawa is a popular manga that illustrator Nagano has been posting on X (formerly Twitter) since 2020. The series won the Japan Character Award 2022, then went on to win the Grand Prix two years running at the Japan Character Award 2024 and the Japan Character Award 2025. The gap between its small, cute characters and its unforgivingly harsh world has won it broad popularity among adults and children alike, and its follower count has now surpassed 4.81 million.
The Chiikawa anime airs on Fuji TV affiliate stations as part of Mezamashi TV every Tuesday and Thursday at around 7:36 a.m. In addition, Chiikawa's first-ever feature film, Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of Mermaid Island, is set to open in theaters on July 24.
