"Chiikawa" is a popular manga posted on X (formerly Twitter) by illustrator Nagano since 2020. It won the Japan Character Award 2022 and went on to win the Grand Prix two years in a row at the Japan Character Award 2024 and Japan Character Award 2025. The gap between its small, cute characters and its harsh world has gained wide popularity among adults and children alike, with its follower count surpassing 4.84 million to date.
The anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing every Tuesday and Thursday at around 7:36 AM on Fuji TV's "Mezamashi TV." Additionally, "Chiikawa The Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," the franchise's first theatrical film, opened in theaters on July 24.
