"Did You Just Say 'Ed-san'?" Collaboration Talk Between Romi Park (Ed in "Fullmetal Alchemist") and Yume Miyamoto (Asa in "Daemons of the Shadow Realm")

The "Fullmetal Alchemist x Daemons of the Shadow Realm Exhibition" is currently underway at the Event Square on the 8th floor of Matsuya Ginza in Tokyo, having opened on August 13. Celebrating both the 25th anniversary of manga artist Hiromu Arakawa's masterpiece "Fullmetal Alchemist" and the 5th anniversary of "Daemons of the Shadow Realm" (which is currently airing as a TV anime series), the exhibition features original artwork and rare production materials from both titles.

At a press preview held the day before the opening, Romi Park (who voiced Edward Elric in the TV anime series "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood") and Yume Miyamoto (who voices Asa in the TV anime "Daemons of the Shadow Realm") took the stage. They spoke about their personal affection for both works and shared their thoughts on the exhibition's content.

Park and Miyamoto appeared in outfits inspired by their respective characters. When asked about her impressions of the exhibition, Park commented, "There was a 'Fullmetal Alchemist' exhibition in the past, but this time, the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I was diving right back into the world of Hiromu Arakawa. In the 'Daemons of the Shadow Realm' section, Sayu-sama were right there too. Near the exit, there's even a display where both worlds intersect, which I thoroughly enjoyed."

There is also an area inside the exhibition where visitors can hear Ed's voice. Reflecting on this, Park jokingly poked fun at herself, saying, "I had the rare experience of being welcomed by my own voice, but as usual, that damn pipsqueak is so loud!"

When asked about recommended exhibits, she replied, "There’s a Q&A section with Arakawa-sensei, and you can feel her love in every single word, so I really want everyone to see it. Her comments about Ed and Al gave me such a warm, gentle feeling inside." She also mentioned Arakawa's signature written on the key visual at the entrance.

Having played Ed for over 20 years, Park reflected on the series once again: "Having played him for so long, I really feel that life is all about Equivalent Exchange. It impresses me all over again how brilliantly that was portrayed in the manga, and I keep coming back to those words at different points in my own life."

Miyamoto, who belongs to the generation that grew up with "Fullmetal Alchemist," was then asked for her thoughts on the exhibition. She shared, "I was happier than anything to see a series that all my classmates were watching placed side-by-side with a series I'm currently involved in. I think people of my generation will find it really moving. And since 'Daemons of the Shadow Realm' is currently airing as a TV anime, there are displays of scenes that will definitely strike a chord if you've been watching."

Highlighting a particular feature of the exhibition, she picked out one item: "This time, they have the sculpture of Gabriel that was previously shown at 'AnimeJapan 2026,' and I'm so glad it's on display again. It’s so imposing, and its teeth are surprisingly neatly aligned (lol)."

The topic then shifted to the voice recording sessions for "Daemons of the Shadow Realm," which are still ongoing. Regarding Miyamoto's mention of her character's brother complex, saying, "I focus on how much emotion I can pack into the word 'Anisama' (Big Brother)," Park chimed in with, "If we're talking about brother complexes, we won't lose to you guys either, you know!" Miyamoto beamed, saying, "I'm so glad to hear that!"

When asked about the "Daemons of the Shadow Realm" content, Park pointed out a recreation of the Danno family living room—a display that became a hot topic during the anime broadcast—as a must-see: "I actually stuck my own head into Gabriel, and there's a lovely corner where a TV is playing, so definitely keep an eye on what's on screen."
