"Chiikawa the Movie" Surpasses 10 Million Admissions! 5th Theatergoer Bonus "Secret Book" Garners Reactions: "This is exactly the kind of thing I want!"

On the official X account for "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island", it was announced that the film's total admissions have surpassed 10 million and that a "Secret Book" will be distributed in limited quantities as the 5th theatergoer bonus. The sneak peek at the luxurious 52-page bonus, announced alongside a thank-you message for the blockbuster hit, has elicited cheers of joy from fans.

The released images showcase details of the "Secret Book" bonus, which will begin distribution on Saturday, September 19th. The "Secret Book" is a luxurious 52-page booklet featuring "Story Illustrations" drawn by original creator Nagano during the conceptual stage, a newly illustrated essay manga titled "Mucha-uma Diary", and a special manga at the end of the book called "Ode and the Island". Furthermore, multiple teaser images of the inside were posted, revealing precious rough sketches and setting materials that offer a glimpse behind the scenes of production. These include an idea where "Ano-ko" was placed instead of the Siren, a draft where Hitoha and Futaba had faces and dialogue, and a scene of them being taken home that wasn't depicted in the main film.

The "Chiikawa" anime is an animated series based on the manga "Chiikawa: Something Small and Cute" created by Nagano. The TV anime is currently broadcasting on the Fuji TV network, and a wide-ranging media mix is underway, including the rollout of a smartphone app game. Released on July 24, 2026, this film is the franchise's first animated theatrical feature.
