Cast and Staff Comments

Comment from Hiroto Shimizu (Dan Ichikura)

How did you feel when you learned you had been cast as Dan Ichikura?

For about two days, I seriously thought it might be a dream... When I was first told, "It's been decided that you'll play Ichikura," I was too stunned to feel happy. Little by little it sank in, and when the scripts arrived, I was so happy I thought my knees might give out. He's a character I love that much, so along with the joy, I remember feeling a nervousness welling up from deep in my gut.

What do you find appealing about Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent, and about Dan Ichikura, the character you play?

I think Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent is a very hybrid work: a straight-down-the-middle youth romantic comedy that also has the kind of "heat" you'd associate with shonen manga. And Ichikura is a good-looking, strong guy who is also good at studying. He's a little rough around the edges, but he's not a flawless superhuman and he's not mature beyond his years either. He's just an ordinary high school student.

That said, since he's a former delinquent, he doesn't really get how ordinary communication works (laughs). So he pretends to be a model student, but he isn't as good at it as he thinks he is. I think that honesty and clumsiness, not just his coolness, is a big part of what makes Ichikura such a charming character.

A message for viewers!

I played Ichikura's growth and youth with more love than anyone, pouring my heart and soul into it, quite literally. I'd be happy if, through this work, Ichikura and Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent itself come to be loved even more by everyone.

We are all putting our hearts into making this together with the cast and staff. That's why I can say with confidence: "Please look forward to it!!"

Comment from Suzuko Hara (Hiro Momose)

How did you feel when you learned you had been cast as Hiro Momose?

I was so surprised that I wondered if there had been some mistake. I hadn't expected to pass, so when I was told I'd gotten the part, I was so flustered that I kept thinking, "Did I really pass? Huh? Hiro Momose? Really? Me? Is this a dream??"

What do you find appealing about Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent, and about Hiro Momose, the character you play?

One of the highlights of this work is that even the people passing by on the street have such distinct personalities. Unexpected moments often make me laugh out loud, and I'm always struggling to hold in my laughter. It's also heartwarming to see Ichikura and Momose pushing each other around. And whenever Ichikura teases Momose, I get a flutter every time!

Momose is an ordinary girl you could find anywhere. She can be a little clumsy, but she's so funny that, if she were my friend, I'm sure school life would never get boring. She's driven, takes everything seriously and gives it her all, and sometimes worries about things in earnest. I like that about Momose's personality.

Seeing Momose's earnestness, seriousness and clumsiness reminds me of my own school days, when I agonized over even small things. I think what makes Momose, and this manga, appealing is that everyone can feel close to her.

A message for viewers!

I'm truly happy to be part of a work I love as Hiro Momose. I'd be glad if watching this anime makes you smile and think, "Momose is doing her best, so I'll do mine too!" I also want to perform so that everyone feels Momose is like a friend, someone close to them. Please look forward to this hectic youth romantic comedy where all sorts of things happen!

Producer Kanako Tada (ABC Animation)

Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent is a long-awaited anime adaptation, and my feelings about it run deep. Seeing the characters move as anime for the first time in this announcement, I was overcome and tears came. I've already cried quietly out of happiness many times, and I wonder how many more times I'll cry before the anime airs. I can't wait to bring the anime itself to as many people as possible!! With Director Hoshino and the rest of the staff, and with Shimizu, Hara and the rest of the cast, we are delivering this with a truly wonderful team. Please look forward to it!
