The TV anime The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All will begin airing on January 8, 2027, in the FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT programming block on Nippon TV and its affiliated stations. Ahead of the premiere, a first trailer featuring footage from the anime and its score has been released, along with the announcement of additional characters, cast members, and the music staff.

The anime is based on the manga by Sumiko Arai, which has surpassed 2.25 million copies in circulation worldwide and has won numerous awards in Japan and abroad. Animation production is handled by CloverWorks, with Masashi Ishihama as director, Rino Yamasaki in charge of series composition, and Kanna Hirayama as character designer.

The first trailer, unveiled at the anime event New York Comic Con 2026 in New York, USA, showcased the voices of protagonist Mitsuki Koga, played by Mariya Ise, and Aya Osawa, played by Akari Kito. The trailer also features the score composed by Kosuke Noma and Takayuki "Kojiro" Sasaki. Both composers shared comments expressing their joy at having recorded the score in Tokyo and Los Angeles and at having created music that stays close to the characters' emotions.

In addition, five more cast members were announced. Kenjiro Tsuda will play Joe, Mitsuki's uncle; Tasuku Hatanaka will play Narita, a classmate at the high school Mitsuki and Aya attend; Yurina Amami will play Chizuru; Ai Fairouz will play Mao; and Maiko Nomura will play Kanna.

Comments from the new cast members have also arrived. Tsuda, who plays Joe, spoke about the series' appeal: "The two clumsy people who can't communicate well with others are very cute, and Joe, who watches over the two of them, is cute in a cool, understated way."
