"Chiikawa" is a popular manga that illustrator Nagano has been posting on X (formerly Twitter) since 2020. It won the Japan Character Awards 2022, and went on to take the Grand Prize at the Japan Character Awards 2024 and 2025, two years in a row. The gap between its small, cute characters and its harsh worldview has earned it wide popularity among adults and children alike, and its followers have now surpassed 5.64 million.

The anime "Chiikawa" is currently airing on Fuji TV network's "Mezamashi TV" every Tuesday and Thursday at around 7:36 a.m. Also, "Chiikawa the Movie: The Secret of the Mermaid Island," the first feature film based on "Chiikawa," which has been in theaters since July 24, has surpassed ¥15.84 billion at the box office in 59 days since its release.
