"That Scheming Face Is Back After So Long!!" "Maomao's Devious Look": Fans Excited by The Apothecary Diaries Episode 51 Teaser

The official X account for the anime The Apothecary Diaries has released a teaser for Episode 51, "If There Is No Bread," airing in stages from October 16, and it is generating buzz among fans. Many reactions have focused on the expressions of Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yuki) in the footage and on the unusual kanji used in the subtitle.

The anime The Apothecary Diaries is based on the light novel of the same name by Hyuganatsu. It is a major hit that has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines. Popular for its mystery plots starring Maomao, who ends up working as a "poison taster" in the rear palace, and for the comical exchanges between Maomao and Jinshi, it became a huge talking point. Season 3 begins in October 2026, and the series is airing in two split cours, together with the cour starting in April 2027.

The newly released teaser plays like a digest of scenes from Episode 51, "If There Is No Bread." The title uses a rare kanji spelling for bread, read as "pan," and the footage shows Maomao examining a small, dried lump that looks like bread and seems connected to some kind of incident. There is also a close-up of Maomao opening her eyes wide and glaring at someone, along with other expressions that hint at a scheme.

In response to the post, fans have shared comments delighted by Maomao's expressions, such as "Maomao's devious look, lol," "The scheming Maomao face is finally back!!" and "It's so funny how only Maomao's eyes glare over, I've watched it over and over." Many others commented on the subtitle, with remarks like "I didn't know that kanji for bread is read 'pan,'" "This is read as 'pan'?!" and "An anime that teaches you kanji, like the ones for locusts."
