KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world! Exhibition ~Cheerful~ is now underway at AKIBA_SQUARE on the second floor of Akihabara UDX in Tokyo. Held to mark the 10th anniversary of the anime KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!, which began airing in January 2016, the event lets visitors look back on the adventures of Kazuma and his party, with interactive exhibits mixed in.
At a guest press conference held ahead of the opening, Jun Fukushima, the voice of Kazuma, and Sora Amamiya, the voice of Aqua, took the stage. Each looked back on the 10-year journey from their own perspective.
Fukushima opened by greeting the audience with, "Over these 10 years, my party members have done all sorts of things, and I apologize for that!" Amamiya immediately shot back, "Is this an apology press conference?!" It was an opening exchange very much in keeping with the spirit of the series.
Asked about the anime reaching its 10th anniversary, Fukushima reflected, "It's been a blink-of-an-eye 10 years, and the number still doesn't really sink in. It was so intense and so much fun that it feels like only about three years. That's how fleeting these 10 years have been. Lately, staff from other productions and newer voice actors have started telling me they loved the series, and hearing that makes me realize the weight of 10 years."
Amamiya said, "Once recording started, it felt like we just sprinted flat out, and before I knew it, 10 years had passed. The anime hasn't run continuously the whole time, so I have a strong sense that we've kept the series connected through the gaps. Thinking about it that way, I'm deeply moved by 10 years." Fukushima also remarked fondly that, through games, events, and more, the work and its characters have always been close by over the past decade.
When the conversation turned to memorable events over the 10 years, Fukushima began, "Kazuma was my first leading role, so he let me experience all sorts of firsts," and went on to mention memories of working as a radio personality and appearing at film stage greetings. Among them, as a wildly over-the-top event typical of the series, he named the 2019 bus tour KonoSuba -God's blessing on this wonderful trip! ~Yugawara Exploration Edition~.
"It was just the two of us, me and Tetsu Inada, who plays the rowdy character (laughs). I figured it would be all men, but happily there were a lot of women too. We picked mandarin oranges together and soaked our feet in a hot spring. There were big events and edgy events of all kinds, and it was a lot of fun," he summed up.
