Yoshiyuki Tomino Stands in Odawara!! Report on the "Yoshiyuki Tomino's Starting Point" Exhibition and Ceremony

Many works by Tomino, who is a novelist as well as an anime director, are also on display.

From the displayed materials, visitors can also sense the spirit that runs through Tomino's later works. In addition, from valuable materials such as storyboards and scripts for Astro Boy to unreleased works, the exhibition includes items that could not be seen even at the recent touring exhibition "The World of Yoshiyuki Tomino."

Although Tomino describes himself as "a director who can't draw," visitors can also see illustrations he drew himself, such as sketches from his time in Odawara and image boards for his works. How did he face drawing over the long years, and how did he spin stories through anime, an art form that makes drawings move? By touching on his starting point, you should be able to get a sense of at least part of the answer.

From the top floor of the Odawara Castle main keep, you can take in a panoramic view of the area around Odawara Castle and Sagami Bay. In Gundam Reconguista in G, an artificial sea is created inside a space colony, and Tomino recalls that in creating this setting, "I imagined a distance about as far as the view from my hometown of Odawara out to Oshima."

Space Runaway Ideon depicted a sea of life, Wings of Rean showed Aura Ships rising from Byston Well and floating on the sea, and Mobile Suit Gundam portrayed people living on Earth and in space. Come and experience for yourself, with your own eyes and body, the possibility of drawing boundless imagination from the sea and sky of Odawara.

The second venue is the Small Hall and gallery corridor of Odawara Sannomaru Hall, where the exhibition will open on November 23.
