Frieren is a mage from the hero’s party that vanquished the demon king, and she is an elf who has lived for over 1,000 years. One of Frieren's few weaknesses is her inability to resist the temptation of opening treasure chests that are likely mimics. It's said that whenever Frieren battles a mimic alone, she returns with her hair looking frizzy as if she got a perm.
The currently streaming anime "Frieren: Beyond Journey's End" is based on the manga of the same name, written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Sunday." The story is set in the world "after" the demon king's defeat, where Frieren (voiced by Atsumi Tanezaki) embarks on a journey to "understand people." The original comic has received numerous awards and has garnered immense support and acclaim, with over 24 million copies in circulation as of the current 14 volumes. Additionally, the second season of the TV anime is scheduled to air in January 2026.

According to Frieren, in such cases, she uses attack magic to explode the mimic from the inside. However, since she has to explode the creature trying to swallow her whole, she admits, "I don’t like it because my hair gets all frizzy." This revelation prompts Fern to recall past instances where Frieren’s hairstyle had changed. In a flashback, Frieren, who should have had straight silver twin tails, returns with curly hair, lamenting, "I ended up with ringlets..."
