“The Apothecary Diaries” anime is based on the light novel series by Hyuganatsu. The story has also been adapted into manga, with the series surpassing 40 million copies in circulation. The storeroom that Maomao and Kyou-u infiltrate is revealed to be the workshop of Feifa, where Jinshi was also previously attacked during a hunting event. There, the two encounter the cold-hearted woman Shenmei, accompanied by Ayla, one of the envoys. Though they manage to escape punishment, Maomao ends up being captured and taken to a “fortress” surrounded by snow and massive, sturdy walls. With an imposing fortress and a large quantity of Feifa (crossbows), Maomao realizes that she has become entangled in a major incident that could shake the entire nation.
