A Warmth Like Family... The Bath Scene with Maomao and the Three Courtesans in "The Apothecary Diaries" Is Heartwarming

Episode 18 of the anime "The Apothecary Diaries" features a bath scene with Maomao (voiced by Aoi Yūki) and the three popular courtesans known as the "Three Beauties," which has soothed many viewers. The act of washing each other's backs, depicted as a familial bond brimming with love between Maomao—who grew up in the pleasure district—and the courtesans, is a highlight that should not be missed.

The "Three Beauties" refers to the three top courtesans at the high-class brothel Verdigris Pavilion in the pleasure district. Normally, they are so distinguished that even seeing their faces is off-limits to ordinary customers, but to Maomao, who was raised there, they are like mothers to her. Maomao affectionately calls them "Sis" and looks up to them.

In episode 18, Maomao returns home to the Verdigris Pavilion and ends up taking a bath with one of the Three Beauties, Meimei (voiced by Megumi Han). When Meimei says, "Shall I wash your back for the first time in a while?" Maomao modestly replies, "Oh, it's fine." At that moment, Pairin (voiced by Ami Koshimizu) and Joka (voiced by Hiroki Nanami) enter the scene.

Encouraged by Pairin and Joka with comments such as "It's been a while since we did this" and "Let her wash your back. You won't be able to come back home for a while starting tomorrow, right?" Maomao agrees to have Meimei wash her back. At first, Maomao looks a bit bewildered, but her expression gradually shifts to one of happiness. Pairin and Joka watch over Maomao warmly, smiling at her.
