A Café Bar Staff Member from Minami Attempts an Asuka Cosplay from "Neon Genesis Evangelion"! "I Focused on Her Strong Core and Tsundere Aura"

——What particular aspects did you want to express through this cosplay?

Saya: Actually, I’m a cosplay beginner, and the Asuka costume I wore was kindly given to me by one of our customers. On the day of "StreFes," I got advice on posing from a friend who was cosplaying as Rei Ayanami. I consciously tried to express Asuka's inner strength and tsundere aura through my gaze and poses.

——"Evangelion" has a long history since its broadcast in 1995. Could you tell us how you first encountered the series and what appeals to you about it?

Saya: Thanks to my older sister and brother, I first watched the anime when I was a child. I was immediately drawn in by the depth of the psychological depictions and the unique world-building, and I went on to collect the entire manga series as well. Of course, it's extremely well-crafted as an anime, but I think what's really special is how your impressions change each time you watch as you grow older. My favorite episode is episode nine, "Both of You, Dance Like You Want to Win!"—I love it so much, I even rewatched it on the morning of the cosplay!

——Do you have any announcements or other characters you’d like to cosplay in the future?

Saya: I’m not particularly active as a cosplayer, but from here on I’d like to try characters from the anime I loved as a kid. Especially series like "Ojamajo Doremi" and "Cardcaptor Sakura"—I absolutely love those girls’ anime from the 1990s and 2000s, and someday I’d love to express those worlds through cosplay!
