Jinshi’s daring action sent fans into a frenzy online: “Gyaa—he called her by name!!!” “He just casually called her Maomao,” “He touched her lips aaahhh,” and “Everyone’s so surprised!”

Currently, the anime "The Apothecary Diaries," based on the light novel by Natsu Hyūga of the same name, is being streamed in one go. The series has also been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines and boasts a cumulative circulation of over 40 million copies. The TV anime aired for two consecutive cours starting October 2023, gaining huge popularity for its mystery-solving stories in which Maomao works as a poison tester in the rear palace and the comical exchanges between Maomao and Jinshi. The second season of the anime began airing in January 2025.
