The anime "The Apothecary Diaries" is based on the light novel of the same name by Natsu Hyūga. It has been adapted into manga in two monthly magazines, and the series has surpassed 40 million copies in circulation. The TV anime aired for two consecutive cours starting in October 2023 and became a huge topic for its mystery drama centered around Maomao, who works as a "food taster" in the inner palace, as well as for the comedic interactions between Maomao and Jinshi (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka). The anime’s second season began airing in January 2025.
