The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotouge, which was serialized in “Weekly Shōnen Jump” from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story follows the struggles of a boy, Tanjirō Kamado, whose family was slaughtered by demons. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a hot topic, and its sequel, “Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. As of today, the manga’s total global circulation has reached 220 million copies, making it a monumental hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” It was subsequently announced that “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle,” a trilogy covering the final story arc, is in production. The first installment, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba The Movie: Infinity Castle - Part 1: Akaza Returns,” which premiered on July 18, 2025, has earned over 28 billion yen in just 38 days since its release.
