The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy whose family was slaughtered by demons, as he begins his fight against them. The TV anime “Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc”, which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation. Its direct sequel, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train”, surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. The total worldwide circulation of the original manga has now reached 220 million copies, cementing the series as a phenomenal success in manga and anime history.

Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc”, the TV anime continued with the “Entertainment District Arc”, the “Swordsmith Village Arc”, and the “Hashira Training Arc.” In addition, it has been announced that the climactic “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc” will be produced as a trilogy of films. The first of these, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Arc Part 1 – Akaza’s Return”, which opened on July 18, 2025, has already surpassed 29.9 billion yen in box office revenue in its first 45 days.
