This famous scene, in which Tanjirō’s efforts to protect his sister are finally rewarded, elicited strong reactions online: "Nezuko-chan...? She's alive!!!" "Nezuko-chan can talk now!" "Nezuko, really...? She's okay with the sun now?! Good morning~~~~~!"
The anime series "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba" is adapted from the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 2016 to 2020. Set in Japan’s Taisho era, it tells the story of a boy, Tanjirō Kamado, whose family was slaughtered by demons, and his ongoing battle for survival.
The TV anime "Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc," which first aired in April 2019, quickly became a sensation. Its sequel, the movie "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train," surpassed 50 billion yen in global box office revenue. The total worldwide circulation of the original manga has now reached 220 million copies, and the series has become a historic hit in the world of Japanese manga and anime.
Following the "Unwavering Resolve Arc," the TV anime aired the "Entertainment District Arc," "Swordsmith Village Arc," and "Hashira Training Arc." The final chapters, adapted as "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc," were announced to be made into a trilogy of films. The first film, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: Part 1 Akaza’s Return," released on July 18, 2025, earned over 33 billion yen in its first 60 days. As its release gradually expands to international markets, the total worldwide box office revenue, including Japan, has surpassed 68 billion yen.
