The “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba” anime series is based on the manga of the same name by Koyoharu Gotoge, which ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Set in the Taisho era, the story follows Tanjiro Kamado, a boy who fights demons after his family is slaughtered by them. The TV anime “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Tanjiro Kamado, Unwavering Resolve Arc,” which began airing in April 2019, quickly became a sensation. Its sequel, the film “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train,” surpassed 50 billion yen in worldwide box office revenue. To date, the manga’s cumulative worldwide circulation exceeds 220 million copies, making it a monumental hit in the history of Japanese manga and anime.

Following the “Unwavering Resolve Arc,” the TV anime continued with the “Entertainment District Arc,” “Swordsmith Village Arc,” and “Hashira Training Arc.” The final episodes are set to be told in a trilogy, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc.” The first film, “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle Arc: The Reappearance of Akaza,” which opened on July 18, 2025, recorded box office revenues exceeding 33 billion yen within the first 60 days. Overseas releases have also begun, and total worldwide box office revenue, including Japan, has surpassed 68 billion yen.
